Spring 2008
The Cowichan Sportsplex will be opening the latest addition to the site, a fitness trail that runs behind the ball diamonds.
The trail will include a variety of stationary exercise items that can be used by all ages and fitness levels. This fun new project will include a climbing wall, horizontal ladder, sit-up/push-up bench, and parallel bars.
Spring 2008
The Cowichan Sportsplex is pleased to have received funding from the Olympic Paralympic Live Sites grant. With this money the Cowichan Sportsplex will be building an additional washroom building behind the ball diamonds with a multipurpose room that can be used for storage, meetings, and tournament registration.
Spring 2008
The parking lot at the corner of Beverly and Lakes Road is getting an overhaul this spring. Landscaping, gates, and paved entrance roads will make this former back parking lot our new main entrance.
Bev Lashman Playground - Grand Opening July 7, 2007
Thank you to our donors:
Lashman family and friends Duncan Indo-Canadian Community, Pacific Energy 12 Hour Relay, Playground Health and Fitness Centre and the Province of BC.
KidZPlay will take between 3-5 years to complete. Over the next several years we will add a variety of original play structures around the Sportsplex, including a proposed water park.
Our goal is to bring in unique equipment that will challenge and encourage children to play and be active. We want to build a facility where families can come play a game of softball in the evening, enjoy the water park on a hot summer’s day, or watch an exciting lacrosse match on the weekend.
KidZPlay will be funded through a combination of fundraising activities, grants and donations. We’ve estimated that the total cost of the playgrounds will be between $50,000 - $75,000 and the water park is an estimated $100,000 - $150,000. We are confident that we will be able to raise sufficient funds to make this project a success.
The long term goal for the Sportsplex is to build a world-class feature Athlete Centre. It will be a 12,000 square foot building
containing change rooms for sports teams and tournaments, seminar/meeting
rooms for training or courses, a banquet room with kitchen and bar for team
rentals, a concession and rental space for a gym or other sports related
businesses.
This building will truly transform the Cowichan Sportsplex into a world class
tournament facility. Due to fundraising set-backs construction has been postponed until after 2008.
Thank you to Weyerhaeuser who generously donated $75,000 to assist in the completion of this project. Your support is greatly appreciated!

Lots of work has been done this winter on the fencing surrounding the ball diamonds. We’ve extending the backstops and installed safety netting. Improvements to the infields in preparation of the 2008 North American Indigenous Games are being done as well.
This three-diamond tournament venue is home to the Cowichan Valley Slo-Pitch Association. The grand opening was held in April 2006. The fields are equipped with tournament quality lighting and future plans include construction of a washroom building, extensions on the backstops and outfield fences.
Thank you to our Ball Diamond Sponsors, the McKinnon Family, the Pat Carson
Family, Peter Baljet GM and Island Savings. We look forward to officially
naming the fields in you honour.
John Ferreira Field grand opening celebration was in September of 2005 and is the home of Cowichan Field Hockey Association. The Ferreira & Cameron families have contributed over $400,000 towards the completion of the turf.

The pond and surrounding nature area are now being enhanced. The channels have been cleaned-out and expanded to improve the flow of water and fish habitat.
Thank you to the Duncan Daybreak Rotary Club who are working with us to improve the trail and build bridges in this area. The naming privileges for this area are still available to any interested sponsors.
