On an average day the Cowichan Sportsplex is host to 200 guests who come
out rain or shine to use the facilities our site has to offer. Currently
we have a track, fitness trail, sports field, 3 softball diamonds, an artifical turn area and a playground.
Our local visitors enjoy having a safe, well maintained place to come for walks, runs, team practices and games. Many people have come to rely on this facility as a part of their daily routine and enjoy the benefits it has to offer. Regular teams that use the Sportsplex include softball, lacrosse, soccer, field hockey and running clubs of all ages from all over the Cowichan Valley and Vancouver Island.
In the summer of 2005 the Cowichan Valley hosted the BC Seniors Games which brought visitors from all over the province into Duncan and the surrounding area. The estimated benefit to the community of these games was over a million dollars. The Sportsplex hosted softball and all of the track and field events for these games as well as the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.
In August 2008 The North American Indigenous Games will be coming to town. The Sportsplex will play a main role in helping Cowichan Tribes host these games which will bring approximately 27,000 visitors from across North America to our community. The estimated benefit to the area is over $30 million dollars. Many of the events will be held at the Sportsplex including softball, soccer, track and field, and field lacrosse.
In addition to these large events that come to the Sportsplex every couple of years, we also host many international and national events, such as lacrosse teams from Japan, field hockey teams from the UK the Beverly Corners Show n’ Shine which brings travelers from across North America.
The Sportsplex is a benefit to everyone in the
Cowichan Valley and that is why we look to our community for support.
