2006 - The Chesterfield Sports Society celebrates its 10th year anniversary this year!!

 

February 2006

Fields Get Lighting

The lights on the ball diamonds, track & lacrosse box are now all in operation, allowing access to the facilities for night use.

 

March 2006

Kidzone Playground Project Announced

The Cowichan Sportsplex announces its newest project, a Kidzone playground, to be installed on site, fundraising for the playground will be done mainly through the 9th annual 2006 12 Hour Relay, on Canada Day.

 

April 21, 2006

Ball Diamonds Grand Opening

This was the day of the Grand Opening of the ball fields at the Sportsplex, following the beginning of the first Slo-Pitch season in March. In attendance were local sponsors, ball enthusiasts, and dignitaries, as well as the acknowledged Legacy sponsors. The Legacy Sponsors for the ball fields are the McKinnon Family, the Carson Family, Island Savings, and Peter Baljet GM, all of whom raised $75,000 for the project.

 

July 5 , 2006

Official Lacrosse Box Opening

The CVLA (Cowichan Valley Lacrosse Association) officially opened the new lacrosse box. Formerly known as the Chesterfield Box, the lacrosse box was re-named the Weyerhaeuser Thunder Box, who donated $75,000 for the project.

Sportsplex Receives Legacy Award

The Cowichan Sportsplex received a $40,000 Legacy Award from the Cowichan 2005 B.C. Senior Games Society to go towards the purchase of bleachers for the lacrosse box, softball diamonds and track.

 

August 12 , 2006

Pacific Energy 12 Hour Relay Success

The Cowichan Sportsplex raises $54,000 total at their 9th Annual Pacific Energy 12 Hour Relay, which was a great success. With 14 walk/run teams, 12 softball teams, 8 soccer teams, & 2 field hockey teams. As well, fireworks, a dunk tank, and a first-rate musical line-up were a part of the event. Major Sponsors were: Pacific Energy, Hayes, Shaw, Hill & Partners, The Cowichan Valley Citizen, M&M Meat Shop, the Play Ground, Scotiabank, The Cowichan News Leader Pictorial, Thrifty Foods, Queen of Angels, A&W, Iverson Forest Management Inc., 89.7 Sun FM, Sands Funeral Chapel, Van Isle Insurance, Save-on-Foods, Island Farms, Valley Health & Fitness, and N.A.I.G. (North American Indigenous Games).
